Policies

The MIT Arts Studios provide instruction and studio experience in the arts at all levels in a range of media. The program is designed for MIT students, though all MIT affiliates who have an active MIT ID may participate as space permits. Enroll in a class today to develop or to refine your craft in an open, hands-on, and relaxed environment.

Registration Policies

Priority Registration
Matriculated MIT undergraduate and graduate students are allowed to register 1 week prior to other members of the MIT community.  Click here to add your name to the mailing list to receive notifications.

MIT ID
To participate in classes/studio time, you must have an MIT ID. We are unable to sponsor access cards and/or MIT IDs.  MIT provides IDs for students, employees, alumni, and retirees; spouses/partners are eligible to receive an ID with sponsorship from a DLC.  You can find more information on getting an MIT ID here

Skill Level
Intermediate and advanced courses at the MIT Arts Studios build on skills and techniques that were taught in lower level classes in our studios. Should a student have a question about which course is appropriate for their skill level, they should contact the instructor or the studio manager. If a student enrolls in a class outside of their skill level, the instructor and the MIT Arts Studios Manager will work to move the student to another class. If no other class is available, normal refund policies will apply.

Ways to Register
Register online and pay with a credit card (Visa, Master Card, or American Express) or choose Tech Cash (MIT students, faculty, staff, and spouses only).  Tech Cash payments are processed within five business days of your pre-registration. Payment by cash or check is allowed on a case-by-case basis, with approval from the SAA Manager. Please note that enrollment is only confirmed after the course fee is paid in full.

Privacy Policy
We use the information that you provide (name, address, telephone number, MIT ID number, etc.) to process your order and maintain our transaction records. The information will not be used for any commercial or philanthropic purpose not directly connected with, or supported by, MIT without your consent.

Our e-commerce software may use cookies to create and maintain your shopping cart during a session and to maintain your name and address for future visits to the site. Cookies are never used to store credit card information.

We are committed to providing you with a safe online experience. The software we use for processing credit card payments employs secure encryption technology (SSL) to reduce the possibility of theft, manipulation, and other alteration of any information that you provide to us. We employ other companies and individuals to processing credit card payments. They have access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but may not use it for other purposes.

Course Confirmation
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and is not complete until full payment has been received. Students are encouraged to email the MIT Arts Studios Manger with any questions about enrollment status. In the event that a course is full, you will be directed to sign up for the wait list and notified if a space becomes available. We reserve the right to cancel classes with a full refund if enrollment is insufficient to run the class.

Late Registration
After classes begin, registration is permitted on a space-available basis with instructor approval. Please email Stacy DeBartolo.

Course Withdrawal and Refunds
Full refunds are given to students who withdraw five or more days before the first class, less a $25 administrative fee. No tuition refunds can be given thereafter. No partial refunds, pro-rated classes, or make-up classes are offered for student absence or scheduling conflicts.

Inclement Weather
Classes are cancelled due to inclement weather at the instructor’s discretion. Should an instructor need to cancel a class for any reason, students will be notified by email no later than 2 hours prior to the start of the class. If a class is cancelled, we will make every effort to accommodate a make-up session.

Materials
Although some materials may be provided and the studios are open to all members, we ask that members use a reasonable approach in terms of material and studio use and we ask that all members of the community help maintain a safe and clean studio environment. Abuse or mis-use of studio access or community materials will result in removal of access and privileges.

Photo/Video/Voice Release
MIT Arts Studios programs are sometimes videotaped or photographed for publicity in catalogs, newspapers, radio, or television. Permission to be included in publicity is implied by enrollment. Please email the MIT Arts Studios Manager if you do not wish to be included in publicity.
