Breaking the Code, Hugh Whitemore’s elegant and deeply moving play about brilliant British mathematician Alan Turing, reveals connections between his cracking of the Nazi’s “unbreakable” Enigma Code and his refusal to live a closeted life. Turing’s expansive spirit embraced seeming contradictions: gay man and war hero, marathon runner and Disney film fan. Envisioning a “universal machine”, he set the stage for modern computer technology.

Presented by the Catalyst Collaborative@MIT, the science theater collaboration betweenUnderground Railway Theater (URT) and MIT. The production will be enhanced with post-show conversations featuring renowned scientists.   Directed by Adam Zahhler, the production stars Allyn Burrows as Turing and features URT Artistic Director Debra Wise.
