2D+3D

The 2D | 3D project studio is located on the 4th floor of the student center (W20) in room 425. Classes will generally meet in this room. Sometimes classes will meet in the adjoining studio, room 429.

2D+3D Studio Policies

Students taking a class in this studio will have 24-hour access outside of class, except during other class times, or otherwise noted. Please check the studio hours before coming in.

Please be aware of EHS guidelines. If you are in a class, the instructor will cover these, if you have signed up for Independent Use, the studio head will have covered this in the mandatory orientation.

Please be cognizant of “community” materials-use and as always, when finished, please store your supplies neatly and leave the studio in as good as or better condition than when you arrived.

Introduction to Drawing

Intro to drawing will provide students with fundamental drawing skills while experiments with different types of subject matter, materials, and mark making tools. When we have nice summer weather, we will take some field trips around campus and draw outside!

Friday Life Drawing

Friday 7:00-9:30pm

Drawing from direct observation of a model, students explore how to capture the rhythm, movement and energy within form. Emphasis will be on developing skills of perception and expression of the human figure through practice with a variety of drawing techniques including: gesture, contour, negative space, hatching and cross-hatching, and value study to depict modeled light. Basic human anatomy and proportion will be touched upon as it relates to capturing the essence of the figure. Utilizing both charcoal and graphite, students will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of mark making experiences.  Both beginners and more experienced students will have the opportunity to further refine and develop their drawing abilities.

Tuesday Intro to Painting A

This is a introduction to oil painting. Students will learn a variety of oil painting techniques as well as about composition and form. In addition to learning how to use the medium, different methods for transferred images onto a canvas will be covered.

Wednesday Intro / Intermediate Painting B

This class is designed for both beginners and intermediate students. Students will learn and practice a variety of oil painting techniques as well as about composition and form. During the class students will build on both their technical and conceptual skills.

Monday Introduction to Printmaking

Mondays, 6-9 pm

This four session June workshop combines traditional and modern printmaking techniques.  Explore the image possibilities of monotype, collagraphs, and  digital transfer.  Starting with simple printing ink transfers to paper, students will explore different ways of creating images.

The class includes a discussion on various papers, inks, and tools for monotype printing. Each person will explore their own creative visions while solving artistic and technical problems.

Students provide their own printmaking paper.
Meets 4 Mondays, 6-9pm
