2D+3D

The 2D+3D studio is located in W20-425.

The SAA studios are open 24 hours a day, every day, during the Fall 2014 term. Registered students are welcome to use the space as long as a class is not in session. Studio schedules will be posted on the doors at the beginning of each term. It can take up to 2 weeks to activate your ID for studio access.

Please be aware of EHS guidelines. If you are registered for a class, the instructor will cover these at your first meeting. If you are registered for Independent Use, the studio manager will discuss with you at your mandatory orientation.

Before leaving the studios, please store your supplies neatly and leave the space in as good as or better condition than when you arrived.

Tuesday Intro to Drawing

Tuesday 5:30-8:00pm

Drawing is a visual language which connects the eye, the brain, and the hand to the world around us. Intro to drawing provides students with fundamental drawing skills while experimenting with different types of subject matter, materials, and mark making tools. Provided with some nice fall weather, we will take some field trips around campus and draw outside!

Friday Life Drawing

Fridays, 7:00-9:30pm

Drawing from direct observation of a model, students explore how to capture the rhythm, movement and energy within form. Emphasis will be on developing skills of perception and expression of the human figure through practice with a variety of drawing techniques including: gesture, contour, negative space, hatching and cross-hatching, and value study to depict modeled light. Basic human anatomy and proportion will be touched upon as it relates to capturing the essence of the figure. Utilizing both charcoal and graphite, students will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of mark making experiences.  Both beginners and more experienced students will have the opportunity to further refine and develop their drawing abilities.

Tuesday Intro to Oil Painting

Tuesday 8-10:30pm

Intro to oil painting teaches students a variety of oil painting techniques as well as about strong composition and form. Students will lean about and engage with color. In addition to learning how to use the medium, different methods for transferring images onto canvas will be covered.

Wednesday Intro / Intermediate Painting B

Wednesday 5:30-8:00pm

Instructor: Nicole Tariverdian [email]

This class is designed for both beginners and intermediate students. Students will learn and practice a variety of oil painting techniques as well as about composition, form and color. During the semester students will build on both their technical and conceptual skills. Intermediate students will learn how to stretch and prepare canvas and other painting surfaces.
