Lunch and Private Tour at Mass MoCA

MASS MoCA exhibits art by both well-known and emerging artists, focusing on large-scale, immersive installations that would be impossible to realize in conventional museums.

CAMIT members will take a private tour with Curator Denise Markonish of the current exhibition, Until, by Nick Cave. CAMIT Members who attended the trip to Chicago in 2010 will recall the visit to Nick Cave’s wonderful studio.

About the Exhibition: Nick Cave, the artist celebrated for his wearable sculptures called Soundsuits, turns expectations inside out in a massive immersive installation, where not a single Soundsuit will be found. Instead, Cave uses MASS MoCA’s signature football field-sized space to create his largest installation to date, made up of thousands of found objects and millions of beads, which will make viewers feel as if they have entered a rich sensory tapestry, like stepping directly inside the belly of one of his iconic Soundsuits.

It is a vital hub for deep student learning and participation; for taking risks and testing creative, future forms of scholarship and teaching; and for boldly affirming the relevance of the history of art and the arts broadly. Partnering closely with art department faculty and others, the museum aims not just to sustain but to revitalize the college’s world class legacy in the visual arts for generations to come.
