Studio/Lab: Laboratory for Multiscale Regenerative Technologies

Awhile back, we profiled postdoctoral associate Tal Danino, who is collaborating with Visiting Artist Vik Muniz on a series of “bacteria portraits.” This time, we had a chance to visit Danino’s lab space in Dr. Sangeeta Bhatia’s Laboratory for Multiscale Regenerative Technologies, focused on “the applications of micro- and nanotechnology to tissue repair and regeneration.” Here, Danino works to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic technologies for cancer and liver disease. Highlights of our visit included a plate of patterned liver cells, an agar-coated petri dish growing pattern-forming P. dendritiformis C bacteria stained with Brilliant Blue, and a -80C freezer used for long term storage of bacteria, peptides, and tissue samples.
