String Tunnel

Although the path from Kendall Square to the main campus is familiar to students, faculty and staff, visitors to MIT often get lost trying to find the main campus buildings. String Tunnel is a pathfinder to the Infinite Corridor that continues the way-finding begun in the Chroma District, although in a completely different way. In this case, the diaphanous tunnel or archway is created from nylon threads. The installation serves not only to create a sense of entry to and from the Infinite Corridor, but also to frame the views around them.
Funded in part by a grant from the Council for the Arts at MIT.
