FA18 Wednesday Advanced Ceramics

The focus of this class is on creating pieces to be fired in the New Hampshire Institute of Art (NHIA)’s Fushigigama Kiln and is for students proficient in intermediate + levels of both wheel throwing and hand building.  The wood fire kiln requires different materials which will be purchased by the SAA; the cost of this class includes Cone 10 stoneware, wood fire glazes and slips and a portion of the shares of the kiln that the SAA is renting. To avoid cross contamination with the two clay bodies that we use in our studio, the Cone 10 Stoneware is for in-class use only.  By registering for this class, you commit to one shift each of loading and unloading the kiln and two shifts of firing the kiln.

It is mandatory that you have taken beginner and intermediate classes prior, though completion of those courses does not guarantee you are at the advanced level.  Should you have questions about eligibility for this class, please be in touch with the instructor.

The dates of the wood fire are as follows:
Loading: October 19, 20, 21
Firing: October 26, 27, 28
Unloading TBD, likely November 3, 4

This class meets 10 Wednesdays starting September 19 from 7:30-10:00pm in the Ceramics Studio (W20-431) and is taught by Jason Pastorello.

If you are interested in taking this class without the wood fire component, please email Stacy.

There is no class November 21.
