FA22 Wednesday Introduction to Drawing

Day/Time: 10 Wednesdays starting September 21, 4:00-6:30pm

There is no class November 23.

This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals and processes of drawing. Students will engage with, and explore, a plethora of drawing methodologies such as mark-making, layering, additive/subtractive drawing, perspective, and the articulation of line, shape, volume, weight, gesture, and composition. Through exercises that are grounded in observation, students will gain technical skills, confidence, and a critical eye for representing various subject matters and concepts.

MATERIALS:

  • 18 X 24 Newsprint paper
  • 18 X 24 Bristol
  • Vine Charcoal
  • Compressed Charcoal (Please try to get General’s or Faber-Castell)
  • White Conte Crayon
  • Black Conte Crayon
  • White Mars Plastic Eraser
  • Pencils (HB and 2B, some students may also want to purchase 4B and 6B)
  • Small sketchbook for daily use (recommended)

Materials can be purchased at Artist & Craftsman Supply and Blick Art, both in Central Square.
