This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of drawing. Students will explore a variety of drawing methods such as mark-making, layering, additive/subtractive drawing, and the articulation of line, value, shape, volume, weight, gesture, and composition. The first four weeks focus on observational studies to develop the technical skills that will be applied in the remainder of the class through larger, more complex drawings. Students will leave with the techniques, confidence, and critical eye to render a variety of subject matters and concepts in drawing mediums.
Materials: A newsprint pad (50 sheets, 19″ x 24″). Students should bring all materials to the first class.
*Materials fee covers the cost of consumables such as Bristol paper, erasers, and charcoal.
