Over the course of 4 weeks students will learn the beginning processes of creating an oil painting. Skills such as selecting successful imagery for a the canvas, determining aspects of a strong composition, underpainting, creating strong color palettes, and the basics of color mixing will be covered.
Week 1 – Image selection and composition creation
Week 2 – Underpainting
Week 3 – Palette set up and color mixing
Week 4 – Work session with guidance from instructor
Materials for first class:
- A canvas that is stretched onto stretcher bars and primed like this one. You can select any shape/size that inspires you. No smaller than 14″ X 14″, please!
- 5 reference photographs printed in color on 8.5 x 11 paper (one per sheet)
- #2 pencil
