“The object of art is not to reproduce reality, but to create a reality of the same intensity.”  ~Alberto Giacometti

During this workshop students will learn about drawing and painting from observation as well as about making successful creative choices while they work. Working with real objects will allow students to practice translating the physical world to the representational via drawing and painting. Each class will provide a different subject matter to capture. Please feel free to bring in your favorite portable objects to class to include in our setups! We will look to Wayne ThiebaudGiorgio Morandi, Paul Cezanne, and Henri Matisse for inspiration.

IAP Painting classes include a materials fee that covers the cost of paint and brushes.  Materials you will need to bring to the first class:

  • A canvas that is stretched onto stretcher bars and primed like this one.  You can select any shape/size that inspires you.  No smaller than 14″ X 14″, please!
  • #2 pencil
