SP18 Optional Wood Fire Extension

The focus of this class is on creating pieces to be fired in NHIA’s Fushigigama kiln. You will learn how clays, glazes and slips behave in a wood fire kiln and be able to participate in a workshop hosted by Chris Archer. Students who enroll in both the class and the wood fire class extension will have the opportunity to load, fire and unload their work in a shared wood fire kiln in New Hampshire. By registering for this class, you commit to one shift of loading/unloading and one shift of firing the kiln. The SAA is committed to running this extension at cost, so signing up indicates your commitment to participate. For this reason, we are not able to offer refunds after registration for this optional course add on.

The cost of the class extension is $150 regardless of your MIT affiliation and includes the use of Cone 10 stoneware (in class use only), wood fire glazes and slips, and a portion of the shares of the kiln that the SAA is renting.

The dates are as follows:

Loading: April 20-22
Firing: April 27-29
Unloading TBD (likely May 6)
