Our world moves and changes over time; learn how art can as well. This course will explore methods for using motion and viewer interactivity to create uniquely engaging works of art. By breaking down complicated mechanisms into basic components, students will learn to construct their own original art machines from everyday materials. Useful building skills in a variety of materials, including wool, metal, and plastic, will also be taught.
Students should bring a sketchbook and pencil. Basic materials—such as plywood, dowels and wire—will be provided, but students may wish to purchase additional materials, depending on their interests and/or the scope of their work.
This class meets 10 Thursdays starting February 22 from 5:00-7:30pm in the START Studio (W20-429) and is taught by Justin Playl.
