This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals and processes of drawing. Students will engage with, and explore, a plethora of drawing methodologies such as mark-making, layering, additive/subtractive drawing, and the articulation of line, shape, volume, weight, gesture, and composition. Through exercises that are grounded in observation, students will gain technical skills, confidence, and a critical eye for representing various subject matters and concepts.
MATERIALS:
- 18 X 24 Newsprint paper
- 18 X 24 Bristol
- Vine Charcoal
- Compressed Charcoal (Please try to get General’s or Faber-Castell)
- White Conte Crayon
- Black Conte Crayon
- White Mars Plastic Eraser
- Pencils (HB and 2B, some students may also want to purchase 4B and 6B)
- Small sketchbook for daily use (recommended)
Materials can be purchased at Artist & Craftsman Supply and Blick Art, both in Central Square.
