SU17 Independent Study in Ceramics

Ceramics students who enroll in Independent Study are granted access to the SAA clay studio to work independently, without guidance, outside of scheduled class time.

Access to the SAA clay studio includes equipment use and materials.  The expectation for the Independent Studio user is that they aid in maintaining the studio and assist in studio tasks such as loading and unloading kilns, clay recycling, general housekeeping, etc.

Independent study provides an excellent opportunity for and advanced level student to focus on an idea or project and move it forward.  There are no formal meetings for this class except for orientation where students meet with the studio manager to discuss their body of work, the plan to move it forward, and the studio tasks that they will be assigned throughout the term.  The course fee covers unlimited individual access to the clay studio except during scheduled class times.

A student at the independent study level should have their own tools, toolbox and apron.

Pre-requisites (No exceptions)

  1. Approval from the studio manager, Darrell Finnegan.
  2. Previous SAA Advanced level class experience.
  3. EHS requires an onboarding/orientation. Please contact Darrell or Stacy to set up a time for this important safety training.
