This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals and processes of watercolor painting. Students will be introduced to water-based media, and exposed to principles of washing, layering, wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry and alternative applications, and will take these skills in rendering both representational and abstract works. We will also dedicate time considering our support for paintings, including how to prime paper for watercolor application and what different papers allow us to accomplish with this wet media. We will work both in-studio and outside (plein air). The semester will wrap up with students working on an independent project of their interest using watercolor.
