Day/Time: 10 Tuesdays starting February 17, 5:30–8:00pm
There is no class March 24.
Location: MIT Arts Studios, W20-425
Instructor: Timothy Lee

This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of oil painting. Students will engage in a series of exercises that help them develop an understanding of the power of images to convey ideas and modes of expression. Exposure to the principles of color theory, mark-making, and textural applications will provide them with the tools to navigate their exploration of the medium.
Although this class is an introduction to oil painting, previous familiarity with observational drawing and basic drawing techniques is necessary as painting builds up on concepts in drawing that are not covered in this class.
*Materials fee covers the cost of all consumables such as paint, cleaning agents and rags; for this class students will need to purchase 3 canvases (12” x 16” or smaller) for their projects as well as a sufficient variety of different brushes. Please check materials list for information on types of brushes. Fee includes a $50 glass palette deposit, which is returned following receipt of a cleaned glass palette at the end of the semester.
