About the Residency
Julia Ogrydiak’s visit to the Institute is part of MIT Sounding, an innovative annual performance series that blurs the boundaries between contemporary and world music. The foundations for the MIT Sounding series were laid in Spring 2013 by Evan Ziporyn, Faculty Director of the MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology, when he united sound and media artists across genres to present cutting edge new music to his class, “Music and Technology.”
The 2013 MIT Spring Sound Series is presented by the MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology (CAST) and MIT Music and Theater Arts.

Biography
Julia Ogrydziak is a violinist, composer, entrepreneur, visual artist and designer based in San Francisco. She holds Physics and Music degrees from MIT where she received the AMITA award for most outstanding woman graduate and was a researcher in the Media Lab Hyperinstruments Group. She also received a Master’s of Design with Distinction from Harvard. She has performed throughout Europe and North America, at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Tanglewood, and Lincoln Center. She is the founder of Blacksquare, a digital media studio.
Julia Ogrydziak’s work traverses the classical and the computational. Her recent projects include collaborations with Capacitor Dance and representing Keith McMillen Instruments as a K-Bow Artist. Ogrydziak has also created shows that combine live performance and immersive visuals, such as Dark Blue Sky Dream which premiered at the Chabot Planetarium in Oakland.
