Fresh returns with an extraordinary evening of experimental ambient soundscapes and incredible contemporary jazz. Featuring Poland’s composer/clarinetist Waclaw Zimpel, hailed as “one of the most promising musicians from the European continent” (Eyal Hareuveni, All About Jazz).

Also featuring Grace & Max – Grace Leslie is a flutist music cognition researcher and electronic musician who is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Affective Computing Group at the MIT Media Lab, developing music neurofeedback systems for creative and therapeutic applications.

A classically trained clarinetist, Wacław Zimpel creates contemporary free jazz inspired by sacred music from different cultures and historical periods. Zimpel is the bandleader of the Polish group Hera, and performs in the international quintet Undivided, featuring Bobby Few and Perry Robinson; the Polish-German Wacław Zimpel Quartet; the South Indian percussion group Saagara; and the ToTu Orchestra, a nine-piece band of Warsaw musicians. He is also a member of Ken Vandermark’s project Resonance.

Zimpel has worked with Klaus Kugel, Hamid Drake, Steve Swell, Christian Ramond, Dave Rempis, Joe McPhee, Mark Tokar, Michael Zerang, Maallem Mokhtar Gania, Giridhar Udupa and Mikołaj Trzaska. In 2010, Zimpel was pronounced Musician of the Year in Stef Gijssel’s blog, The Free Jazz Collective. In 2013, Poland’s Jazzarium named Zimpel Musician of the Year. Zimpel is also the youngest winner of the City of Poznań Artistic Award.
